Just 40 minutes from Faro Airport
It's a really pretty little village, which, as you can see from the picture above, overlooks the Algarve coast for miles with some pretty stunning views all around the village, it's especially lovely at sunset, when you get the most amazing feeling of restfulness and peace.
The village church has been recently renovated and there is also a small fort and pretty little houses dotted around.
When the tide is out you can walk down the steps to the beach which runs for a few few kilometers and is a lovely walk, and If you want to cross the lagoon to the island you can usually find someone to take you across in their boat.
There's no support facilities or attendants, sunbeds or bars and you hardly ever see anyone there, but if you like peace and quiet then this is for you as you'll be rewarded with your very own island!.
When you get back, head for the moroccan style Cafe Azul, one of our our favorite places, for a late afternoon drink and olives (or cake) on the terrace.
The village has 2 other restaurants one of which puts the tables out on the cobbled street next to the church for a really romantic feel. We've never eaten there but it is always busy so I think it's best to book in advance.
