Tavira, East Algarve, Portugal

Just 40 minutes from Faro Airport

Sometimes cold, sometimes very cold, but in the hight of summer the water is PERFECT for cooling you off ,  it can get a little busy in the peak months, but the Waterfall is still well worth a visit.

It's about 15 minutes from Tavira by car, with good parking,(we have an information book with all the directions at the Villa).  It has lovely walks all around, through huge orange and lemon groves, there's deck viewing stations of the river and surrounding countryside, shady places to sit and eat and a small cafe.

Don't forget your costume if you are tempted to get in for a dip, older kids love the rope swings and for the really brave you can try diving in off the rocks, though I always recommend tip toeing in!

Talking of toes, you can even get a free pedicure!  Just stand still for a few moments and the little fish come and have a nibble at the skin on your feet,  it feels a bit wierd at first but you get used to it and I'm told the same treatment is the absolute rage in  beauty salons at the moment!

If you just want to suntan there are plenty of places around the water to put down a towel and have a little nap, by the way flip flops are a good idea as the area in and around  the water is made up of fine stones.

If it does get a bit busy just follow the outlet along for a bit and where it joins the river you'll probably have the place to yourselves.
